Curvy Girl Workout Gear: Plus Size Running Outfit

Curvy Girl Running Gear

Your resolution is set and in motion, but you are SICK of going to the gym and being uncomfortable or feeling frumpy. You keep looking at blogs or brand websites and being frustrated that their “plus size” girl seems to be a size 8, and you KNOW things fit differently on you. You need quality, not just something that falls apart at the first sign of a push up or squat.

Does that sound like any of you? It sure sounds like me! One of the main things I wanted to get in order for the new year was getting some quality, fashionable workout gear- especially something that FITS well on my larger body, and is comfortable to move in.

Being a plus size girl, it’s not easy. The stores that all the fit ladies at my gym go to don’t usually cater to us full-figured babes. Adidas only goes up to a 2X, and you can’t always trust things that aren’t specifically made for plus size to fit like plus designated ones would. (I definitely want to purchase some of their line to see if it fits!) Under Armour only goes to an XL, so they didn’t even try. Lulu Lemon? YEAH RIGHT.

Luckily, there are some great stores and brands that cater to the plus size community. People are always saying things like “these obese people need to go excercise!” and then so many brands don’t carry proper clothing for us to do so! It’s great that so many more have begun to!

Within the next few weeks, I have some outfits to share with you that focus on activewear for plus size ladies, or CURVY GIRL WORKOUT GEAR as I like to refer to it as! Check out the pictures of this week’s workout gear and see the details underneath.

This outfit would be perfect for running, but of course for general activity. The jacket with the bra underneath adds versatility so if you get too hot, just go ahead and take that jacket off. Come on! The thin girls do it, so why not be comfortable in your skin as well as your body temperature. I hope this outfit inspires you! I look forward to posting more outfits like this for you to draw inspiration from as well. :)

  • Jacket- BAKU Plus Size Full Zip Track Jacket
    • (Wearing 2X) This jacket is as comfortable as it is adorable. The material is thick, but somehow manages to be breathable. The BAKU brand has some seriously adorable plus size activewear! I got mine at Carson’s, and since they are ALWAYS having a huge sale, I highly suggest checking them out.
  • Shorts- Plus Size Women’s Nike Tempo Track Shorts
    • (Wearing 3X) I was nervous that Nike plus sizes would run small, so I ordered 3X instead of 2X in the pieces I got from them. I would say Nike actually (surprisingly and happily) runs very true to size. I should have gotten a 1 or 2X, but the 3X is comfortably over-sized on me. They have a built in shell, so you can wear without undergarments, which is SO NICE! You don’t have to worry about your underwear bunching or falling off. I wish everything had built in underwear!
  • Sport’s Bra- Old Navy Women’s Plus Active Sports Bra
    • (Wearing 3X) I love this one because it has slight padding, which gives your gals and little shape and some support. You can’t tell in the picture, but the front, middle panel is a mesh, so it’s breathable. If you have a fuller bust, you will KNOW the disgusting-ness that is sweaty boobs.
  • Tennis Shoes- Women’s Nike Free 5.0 V4 Running Shoes
    • (Wearing 7.5) These shoes are seriously awesome. I got the black version, which I am sure I will share soon, but knew immediately that I wanted the white ones. Of course, they weren’t making them- then I considered buying them for $200, but then my husband surprised me with them for Christmas. (They are back in stock- he didn’t spend $200!) Nikes are really the only tennis shoes I like, and these are some seriously comfortable ones! The older I get, the more grandma I become- I wear my trainers every chance I get! (Pro-tip: They run about 1/2-1 size small, so if you’re unsure, order up!)
