Minimal Fresh, Tan, & Glowy Look

Ahhh, summer! What a time to be alive, right? Well, while summer is a fun season, I have always had a love/hate relationship with the season. The main reason is the sun. I’m so allergic to the rays that it’s ridiculous! One time, I was sitting on a porch in the shade on a really sunny day. I was out there for most of the morning and early afternoon. When I went inside, I realized I got burnt pretty badly! Like, how does that even happen?

As you can imagine, I am the fairest of the fair in terms of skin tones. I typically purchase my foundation in the lightest of almost every single foundation line. If I ever want to look glowy and tanned like my girlfriends who are naturally sun-kissed, then I must use a sunless tanner.

Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer

For sunless tanners, I prefer a gradual tan, especially the JERGENS® Natural Glow® Daily Moisturizer for my body. It’s very easy to use as it comes out just as a lotion (which is actually very moisturizing!) and then gradually develops. I can do one application at night before bed, completely dry off, and then wake up with a gorgeous tan that’s a few shades darker than my skin. Then the next night, I can repeat the process and kick it up some more! You can apply it daily until you reach the tan you want, and then 1-2 times per week to keep it up.

Now, for the face, I use the JERGENS® Natural Glow® FACE Daily Moisturizer with Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 20. I love that Jergens did a formulation just for the face, because I am really careful about what I use on my face. I like that there is SPF, and from using it, I don’t think it gets quite as dark as quickly as the glow moisturizer for the body, which is GOOD. I like to control what goes on with my face area a bit more closely. Also, please note that the SPF in this is for “incidental sun” so be sure to wear your normal sunscreen if you plan on being outside a lot!

The best thing about being bronzed is that you instantly look 10X better without makeup. The tan glow is usually enough to throw people off the “I woke up like this” vibe, but if you really want to pull a look together with minimal makeup that is perfectly fresh, tan, and glowy, I have some tips and a minimal “how-to” below!

Cleanse & Exfoliate-

Make sure that your body and face are cleansed and exfoliated before you apply the glow moisturizer. I’ve just been using my favorite exfoliate, but since I’m almost out, I may just jump in and grab another Jergens product that has caught my eye, the JERGENS® Natural Glow® Color Primer In-Shower Scrub. Be sure to use a more gentle exfoliate on your face as well.

Apply Daily Moisturizer-

I like to use an application mitt to apply my tanner, because I am so fair and dry, that even the best exfoliate can’t rescue the amount of tan that sinks into my hands. Just be sure to apply evenly, and be aware of dry areas on your skin. Use half the amount of product on those laces (hands, knees, elbows, neck, etc.) Personally, I like to apply a moisturizer to those spots before applying my tan, so it seems to help cut back from the tan sinking into and clinging on to dry areas.

Use a Powder Foundation-

Inevitably, when you have a sunless tanner on, your face will end up kind of shiny. I like to skip the cream or liquid foundation step to keep in line with the simplicity of a fresh summer look, but I do still apply a powder foundation. You may need to get a color darker than you usually would, or you could always use a translucent powder just as easily.

Bronze up-

For us fair girls, this is your chance to load on some of those beautiful bronzers that you see everyone else wearing. You can contour a bit to add depth, even out your tan, or just add some shimmery bronziness to “umph” up your sexiness!

Curl & Coat Your Lashes-

Since this is a minimal look, be sure to curl your lashes for maximum length and definition, then go in with your favorite mascara. I love using waterproof mascara to be sure to keep my lashes curled!

Blush & Highlight-

This is an optional step, but I like to get a pop of color and glow into my look! I use a poppy pink or coral to compliment the tan, then a champagne highlight to top off the look and make me glisten in the sun.

Finish with a No Fuss Lip-

Whether you’re most comfortable with a gloss, liquid lipstick, matte lipstick, or whatever- use it! This no-fuss look is all about being free and comfortable, so do what you prefer. I like a sheer lipstick with a bright pink pop to keep up with the tan look.
