If you follow my social media, you probably already know that I am beginning Jenny Craig. In all honesty, I have always thought of trying Jenny Craig but had never really been able to fully commit and just do it! Sounds so strange now, especially since I have seen how easy the program is and that it’s all laid out for you!

In case you don’t know what Jenny Craig is, it’s a weight-loss program that focuses on taking a holistic approach to weight loss and maintenance, focusing on food, body and mind. You work with a consultant either in person or over the phone, and are fit to a program that will work best for you. They have different caloric levels and even have a Type 2 plan for people with Type 2 Diabetes!

Now, if you’re not familiar with my weight loss journey, let me catch you up. Then I will give an update for those of you who have been following along. I have always been a plus-size, full-figured girl, but it wasn’t until after college that I really saw a change in my weight pretty rapidly. I had gone from a steady 170-180 to 250+ in about 6 months! I then quickly moved up to being over 300 pounds and just couldn’t seem to get the weight off. I was finally diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, which you can read all about here. And although I didn’t get a miracle cure, I at least knew what was wrong so I could be able to attempt a fix.

I’ve tried many, many different diets. I was even pretty successful with counting calories. My problem really became the food I was choosing to count as calories- they were beginning to be all empty and just filling up numbers. (This is why I am so happy Jenny Craig is not all about counting numbers!) From calorie counting, I went down to 260 pounds, felt so much better, had less PCOS symptoms, and then life kicked back in. I was so happy just being happy, that I began to ignore the fact that I needed to be healthy. I found that I had recently let myself go a little TOO much, and when I weighed in at Jenny Craig for my first consultation, I was 313 pounds. Not a proud moment for me!

When I step back and think of what has lead me to my “Jenny Moment,” I get pretty emotional. I’ve worked hard to get my mind together mentally to tackle the PCOS diagnosis and a weight loss journey. I just needed to find something to assist me, make it simple, and give me support. I have found all that in the Jenny program and I am excited to see my progress in the coming weeks and months! Jenny is going to help me get on track to fitting into more clothes, feel confident, and have a baby!

My consultant, Darcy, has been SO helpful for me. She believes in me, makes me smile each time I talk to her, and really made me dig deep into my feelings about why I want to lose weight and what will change if I do. Why do I want to lose weight? Ultimately, it boils down to being healthy enough to be pregnant! What will change? My self esteem and my menstrual cycle, hopefully!

So why Jenny Craig, you may be wondering? I think it’s a mixture between the simplicity of having meals all laid out for you, and Jenny Craig‘s philosophy on food. No doubt, I am as busy as ever. With my always on the go lifestyle, it’s nice to know I don’t have to do much food prep, will always have a meal ready in 5 minutes or less, and can be healthy without much thought! Jenny Craig makes their food taste good, because if you like it, you will eat it. It’s simple and true, but if you like what you’re eating you will stay on track.

So far, I have been on the Jenny Craig plan for a few weeks. I have LOVED a lot of the food, and disliked only a few things. But they have over 100 menu items, so there is so much to choose from! If you don’t like something, there is always a way to personalize your menu and make it fit your likes and needs.

My husband and I had a pizza night, where I had the Jenny Craig pepperoni pizza, and he had a frozen pizza from the grocery store. I didn’t feel deprived, and I was pretty impressed with the fact that I could be eating pizza on my diet and not worrying about it!

One of my favorite parts of the Jenny Craig plan is that the menu lays out the amount of fruits and vegetables you need in a day. It’s been hard to actually EAT all the food they are telling me too. I don’t feel hungry at all, but instead I am learning that the good, quality food fills you up and makes sure you get the nutrients you need. (Unlike my empty calorie counting from before!) I’ve loved making different salads and dressing them up nicely to go alongside my Jenny Craig meals.

When I met with my consultant Darcy after my first week of Jenny Craig, I was excited to share with her that I only had one moment of weakness and went off the plan. I was afraid that moment would make me gain for the week, but I am excited to report that I lost 4 pounds!* I can’t wait to share more of my journey with you moving forward. I promise, this isn’t the last you’ve heard about my Jenny Craig plan and weight loss journey!

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the program. Have you tried Jenny Craig or are thinking of trying? Leave a comment below!

*Results not typical. Members following the Jenny Craig program, on average, lose 1-2 lbs. per week. I received promotional consideration.

  1. I’ve been on Jenny for about 5 months now. I’ve lost about 26lbs. I like most of the food….it’s pretty tasty. There are a few things that aren’t really to my liking but then again everyone is different :) I really love the fact that it’s all portioned and ready to go for you. Add your salad and fruits and veggies and it’s really a no brainer. I have had to stop it though, unfortunately it’s gotten to be a bit too expensive for me. Maybe soon I can go back but for now I’m just portioning my food and watching calories and eating clean! Nothing processed. Good luck on your journey.

    1. That’s awesome! Congrats on the weight loss!! I am slowly working my way to not being on JC anymore because I’ve relocated and am not near one. So I have been doing JC breakfast and lunch, then cooking a healthy dinner. I am soon transitioning to only my own foods- pretty nervous, but I think I will be able to use the skills I’ve gained from doing JC and talking with my awesome consultant to make good choices after I’m done! I love using Instagram for motivation- do you do that? If so, what’s your handle so I can follow you?
