Beginner Blogging – IDEA GENERATION & POST PLANNING

Hey there, blogging babies. I hope you’ve learned some valuable blogging information over the last few weeks that you’re adding to your memory bank for when you finally pull the trigger to start your blog! I am urging you to start soon! I know you’ll get the hang of it and love it!

This week, I am sharing about idea generation and post planning. Some people say “HOW AM I GOING TO KNOW WHAT TO WRITE ABOUT?!” To that, I just say “Write what you love.” I can’t say you’ll never have a writer’s block, but it will make it a hell of a lot less frequent! Below are my 4 major tips for IDEA GENERATION & POST PLANNING. I hope you enjoy!

IDEA GENERATION & POST PLANNING

Tip #1- Do Your Brainstorming

Girl, have yourself an old fashioned brainstorming session! Get together with some blogging friends, ask what they are doing! Develop some collaboration ideas, some series that you may want to work on, or maybe develop a whole new subcategory you want to develop on your page.

I love talking with my girls about blog ideas, and they can lend you a hand. I always have blog friends sending me companies or brands or products they think would fit my brand, and I love them for it! Just get your thoughts and ideas out of your brain in whatever order they come out. You can make sense of it all later.

Tip #2- Get to List-Making

Wondering when to make sense of that brainstorming? The time is now, in list-making. I love to write down each category I love blogging about and making lists and notes on blog posts I want to do. Some are for now, some are seasonal appropriate, but they are all valid ideas that can be entertained and developed. From there, I like to start the planning process.

Tip #3- Become a Power-Planner

Depending on how developed your blog is or how much time you have, you can start to plan out your posts based on your list of ideas. I like to take my list, pick about 5-8 things I WANT to write about and schedule them out a few per week. I then pepper in my monthly stand-ins, and I leave wiggle room for collaboration or paid jobs as they come up. Sometimes, I even love to use those ideas to pitch paid jobs. It’s an expert move, but it’s never to early to try to connect with companies. Knowing you have a PLAN and ideas will make companies more willing to work with you!

Tip #4- Always Schedule

Take scheduling posts seriously. I have already mentioned this in this series, but be sure to write and schedule these ideas out so your blog is seamless and doesn’t have 10 posts for the month…all in one day. Give your audience time to digest these posts, write them in your schedule book/planner, and schedule your posts out through your blogging platform. Start with one per week and build up around there. (FYI- 3 posts per week is the number I aim for, with 5 being a stretch goal I hit often as well.)
