SOMETHING NEW EVERY DAY CHALLENGE

I wouldn’t say I am afraid to try new things. I would just say that I’m the kinda girl to just keep doing what’s working because it’s efficient. When I came up with the idea to do my “Clarify You in 2022” daily content challenge, I asked some friends for ideas. One of my friends, Kelly, gave me this idea. I won’t lie, my initial thought was NOPE. And the only reason was because it’s not easy for me.

I decided to take her up on her great idea and do something either BRAND NEW, an idea I’ve never tried, or something that has been a LONG time since I’ve done or that I need to do every day for the month of January. My list got a lot of input on my list of ideas from friends and family, and I have a list of 72 things to choose from. I thought I’d share the first five things I’ve done in the first five days of 2022 and let you know that this is something I will be working on for 2022.

I’ll likely share my experiences on Instagram, so be sure to follow me over there! I will do a recap at the end, but if you’re interested in the day to day, Instagram (Stories or Reels) will share more of the process!

DAY 1: TRY NEW, WEIRD CANDY

I’ll be the first to admit that I phoned it in today. This New Year’s day, my kids let me sleep in until 10am. When I was finally up, I had a disaster of a house to clean, and then when I was finally able to sit down, no kids in tow, I realized I hadn’t done anything new! I scoured my list of possible EASY things to accomplish.

Stocking candy to the rescue! I was able to cross off trying a weird candy off my list, because I had a Reese’s Potato Chips Big Cup. Verdict? Very meh. I like crunch, but this was weirdly crunchy. I recommend the Big Cup with Reese’s Pieces inside though! That variety is my favorite!

DAY 2: LISTEN TO A NEW PODCAST

I have been meaning to find a new pop culture podcast for a while. I had one I loved for a short amount of time, but wow. It started to really annoy me. I wasn’t actively searching for one, but when I found that one of the editors from Indy Maven had one, I knew I was going to give it a listen!

I listened to the Dec. 23rd episode of We Have Notes, which had no guests. It seems promising, but this particular episode seemed like a filler one that maybe was perfect for my first time? I definitely followed and turned on notifications! I’m excited for “Season 2” in the new year! If you’re looking for a good, pop culture show, this might be the one for you!

DAY 3: PRINT WEDDING PHOTOS

Brett and I got married in 2014. We have not printed our photos. There are a couple of reasons for this, but the main one is that I’ve been lazy. On day 3, I finally sent the whole album to be printed. Yeah, we had an inexperienced photographer and we didn’t quite know what we should be looking for. Yes, our photos were saved and sent to us as .jpg, but it’s still nice to have the day commemorated.

Next step? Pick them up from the store and put them into an album.

DAY 4: PAY OFF LIBRARY DEBT

When I was younger, I checked out a book from my local library. I never returned it. I have no idea where it went. Since then, I have not been able to check books out on my own card. When I was younger, I used my brother’s card, and now I use Brett’s to access Libby.

I finally had a breaking point where I thought, “Dammit…I am going to pay off this debt so I can use my own card!” This happened like 3 years ago. I went in with Brett, they wouldn’t take cards, and all we had was a $50. They said they didn’t take $50s, so I was like–wtf? I’ll pay it off later. I owed them $10 and getting a new card was $2, and am glad to say that I now have full usage of my library card.

DAY 5: TRY A NEW COFFEE SHOP

I live in a smaller town outside of Indianapolis, and we have a couple of options for coffee. There’s a trusty drive up one by my house that I like, but I am looking to go to one downtown because I haven’t been there since it was a different coffee shop back in probably 2008!

I decided to get my regular “just testing this place out” order, a vanilla latte. It was good! Also a pro that you can sit inside, so on days when I just need to get out of the house, it would be cool to go there to work a little.

I’m so excited about this process. By nature, I just don’t try a ton of new things unless they are productivity-based. It’s cool trying things that are just random! I’m looking to compile a list in either a blog post or video of all the things I tried. Again, if you want to follow along, I will post some of the things I am doing on Instagram.
