When it comes to pregnancy, we are all hoping to be at our absolute healthiest in our lives in order to nourish and grow life inside of us. My husband and I are beaming with excitement, and always working to balance life/pregnancy cravings/hormones with being healthy for our baby girl!

Since I’m currently almost in my 3rd trimester, I can safely give some tips for things that have helped keep me healthy during pregnancy, including using Nature Made® Prenatal Multi + DHA (200mg) 150ct. soft gels from Sam’s Club. Below, you will find my top 6 tips to aid in having a healthy pregnancy!

TAKE YOUR VITAMINS

Months before I was pregnant, I began taking a prenatal vitamin. Always a bargain lover, I turned to Sam’s Club and my favorite brand of vitamins, Nature Made®, when I knew we wanted to begin trying for a baby and getting my body in the best condition to do so. You should start taking a prenatal 6 months before you start trying to get pregnant. Nature Made Prenatal® Multi + DHA (200mg) 150ct. soft gels is guaranteed to meet our high quality standards – it is made from carefully selected ingredients under strict manufacturing processes. I just take one easy-to-swallow soft gel capsule per day with food, and I am good to go!

Nature Made® Prenatal Multi + DHA (200mg) 150ct. soft gels provide essential vitamins and minerals (before and during pregnancy) including Folic Acid, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Iodine, Vitamin B12, and Vitamin D3†. They also provide 200mg DHA, which may help support fetal brain and eye development†. Clinically proven absorption of folic acid and iron – Nature Made® is the #1 Pharmacist recommended vitamin and supplement brand*.

WRITE A LIST

Being healthy during pregnancy isn’t ALL about your body. I have found that I need to do a lot to keep my mind from wandering all around to the millions of tasks I want to complete and just take some time to breathe. My favorite thing to do is to write out a list (or 20 lists…) that can give your mind a little organization, put all your thoughts in one place, and help you prioritize!

My lists are typically put into my paper planner, but I also have some specific money goals and things we need to do/get for baby on spreadsheets that my husband and I can both access at any time. I find the whole process to be SUCH a stress relief and great for clearing my mind when it’s running wild.

DRINK YOUR WATER

It’s a tale as old as time, right? Whether you’re pregnant or not, it’s so important to drink your water. But getting 8-10 cups of water can help keep infection away! If you’re having trouble or getting bored drinking plain water, try using some fruit to infuse your water or grabbing some flavoring packets to mix things up a bit! I’ve found I do much better at drinking water when I carry an insulated bottle with me wherever I am to have ice cold water on hand. You can also trick yourself by whipping out your prettiest cup. If it holds a cocktail usually, it can hold water now!

STAY ACTIVE

If you’ve always been an active person, you can stay active in your pregnancy! This doesn’t mean if you haven’t been active you can’t start. Most doctors won’t recommend you beginning vigorous activities you’re not used to doing, but just MOVING will help you to keep healthy, prepare your body for labor, and keep off the pesky extra pounds that can come with giving in to some of those pregnancy cravings.

If you’re like me and this seems less than appealing, you can always try to do some things to be active that aren’t watching a workout video or running a mile. Take a walk in the evening (when it’s not so HOT in the summertime) with your partner, go play a light game of tennis, take your dog to the park and don’t just sit on the bench! These are all easy ways to get in some activity without the daunting feeling of “having to work out.”

STICK TO A MEAL PLAN

Making and sticking to a meal plan is a GREAT idea for so many reasons. If you’re not already making a weekly/monthly plan, I highly suggest you start ASAP! Not only does it take the guess work out of what you’re having for meals, but it helps you to be well-prepared so you can prep things you need to ahead of time for your meals. One of the best benefits I have seen in my household is the money-saving aspect, and we need to be saving all the money we can for this new addition to our home! This is another reason why we love Sam’s Club since it’s easy to buy in bulk and prepare those meals.

I’ve found that I have had to adjust my plan to be a bit easier to manage or quicker to make since I am increasingly more tired after a day at work, but having the plan is a simple fall-back that can save you a lot of headaches, time, and money! I think we all need to be saved from these things!

GIVE IN SOMETIMES

I know that I just said you should stick to a meal plan, and I really do think it’s important to do so! I also know that sometimes the cravings are real, you can’t stop thinking about eating a whole bag of potato chips, and well, it can be good for your mental health (and probably your partner’s health) for you to give in every now and then. Have that ice cream topped with pickle chips, enjoy a brownie or three, and just remember that moderation is key! You can always resume your scheduled meal plan right after.

  1. I’m an October baby too! Love Fall birthdays. Finding a good vitamin before, after and during pregnancy is so important. Thanks for sharing your great find. I agree with you on the water. Also super important. So many of us aren’t drinking enough water. Water really helped keep up my supply along with the vitamins.

  2. You’re such a cute mama already! :) Some great tips I can share with my friends who are just starting their pregnancy journeys.

  3. I had NO idea you’re supposed to start prenatals 6 months before even trying! Holy cow.. good to know!
